Inspiration and relaxation at the V&A Museum in South Kensington
When I’m in need of inspiration, I head straight to the V&A in South Kensington. It is the most uplifting and exciting museum to visit. It’s where I go for ideas on everything from scales, to patterns, to colour, or even just to relax and meet friends for a drink and a wander.
Firstly, it’s free which means you can dip in and out for an hour or a whole day. It has fantastic permanent exhibitions. I also love getting sidetracked in their newish bookshop with its vast collection of books on everything from fashion, to textiles and photography.
The museum is always busy – in a good way. It’s open on Friday nights until 10pm which is a great way to start the weekend. On the last Friday of the month they have a ‘themed’ party with music, dancing, fancy dress, drinks and nibbles. It’s both surreal and fun. They also have many talks on a Friday evening – I’ve listened to everyone from Vivienne Westwood to Edmund de Waal.
